Frankfurt For years, private owners of photovoltaic systems had to deal with a complex bureaucracy for the tax return. This is now over: retroactive to January 1, 2022, significant simplifications for smaller systems will come into force. This emerges from the annual tax law, which passed the Federal Council shortly before the Christmas break.
For systems on homes and apartment buildings up to a certain size, income tax will no longer apply retroactively to January 1, 2022. From 2023, the sales tax for photovoltaic systems will also be reduced to zero.
Both have direct implications for the owners. You save taxes, but you can no longer claim certain costs. But there is a loophole, how you can at least deduct the costs for maintenance and repairs. You also have to continue to submit a sales tax return for the PV system for the time being – albeit mostly in an abbreviated form.
