The future cell factory that the company PowerCo, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, will build in Sagunt, will have one of the most advanced professional centers in Spain to train specialized workers in the main functions of a gigafactory that will directly employ 3,000 people. A center, called “Campus Battery”, with the collaboration of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, UPV, will train experts in industrial automation, industrial mechatronics, industrial chemistry or environmental safety, among others.
Students will acquire knowledge in advanced industrial process techniques, industrial digitization techniques, energy storage techniques or industrial management and control techniques.
Ximo Puig announced last Monday in the German city of Salzgitter, where the Group’s first gigafactory is being built, the start of the purchase for 2.29 million euros of a 16,000-square-meter plot of land in Parc Sagunt II to install this center professional. Of these, 8,300 square meters will correspond to the buildings of the center, another 3,000 for parking areas, services and green areas, and the rest will be an area where the facilities can be expanded.

The different degrees of professional training will be designed to accommodate professional training related to the DUAL model and the different micro-training necessary at any given time. The objective is that all the centers of the Valencian Community participate in the “Campus Battery” with offers in the professional families of electricity, electronics, installation and maintenance and all the families of chemistry. It will be implemented through three-year Dual Training Cycles, of which the first two years are taught in vocational training centers, except for the FCT module or DUAL training in the company.

Other training will be given in grades A, B, C and E related to the possible training of the company. LABORA will implement out-of-stock training necessary to improve employability. The technological universities of the Valencian Community will participate in master’s degrees or short-term training related to the sectors of automation, battery chemistry, energy storage, robotics, among others. And training scholarships will be established for all the students of training cycles.
In the area of electricity and electronics, higher degrees will be established in Automation and Industrial Robotics and in Electrotechnical and Automated Systems. For training there will be a multi-purpose classroom, a computer room, a technical room, an automatic systems laboratory, an automatic systems workshop and a workshop for electrotechnical installations.

A Higher Degree in Industrial Mechatronics will also be offered, which will have a multipurpose classroom, a computer room, a technical area, an automatic systems laboratory, a maintenance workshop, a machining workshop, useful interior surfaces for the professional family.
Also a Higher Degree in Industrial Analysis and Control Laboratory and a Higher Degree in Industrial Chemistry. They will have a chemical and physicochemical analysis laboratory, an instrumental analysis laboratory, a physical testing laboratory, a microbiology and biotechnology laboratory, and an industrial chemistry workshop. And a Higher Degree in Education and Environmental Control with a multipurpose classroom, laboratory and environmental education workshop.
