The plans for 1,500 new blades

«Sardinia is the cosmic capital. Yes Einstein, no Draghi ». The appeal of Gavino Ledda, probable candidate for the Nobel Prize for Literature, is a Homeric verse in the abandoned mine of Sos Enattos, in the heart of Barbagia, the only place on Earth where it is possible to hear perfectly the whispers of the universe and measure gravitational waves. Stos Enattos was chosen to carry out the European project ET, Einstein Telescope, a research center that will be among the most important on the planet and will create 35,000 new jobs. Without dirtying nature, breaking through mountains and sea beds, raping the beauty of the landscapes, once again imposing the status of colony on Sardinia: first penal, then military and now “energy”.

The decrees

But no. Right here, thanks to the quick decrees of the Draghi government on green energy and the ecological transition, Sardeolica srl (100% of Saras dei Moratti, also owner of the Sarroch oil refinery) wants to plant six wind towers as tall as 70-storey buildings. Naturally, the noise of the wind turbines would erase the cosmic silence and therefore deprive not only Sardinia but Italy of the prestigious project. The Draghi government’s energy decree, however, requires us to act quickly, to do everything, especially in the field of wind power. So the Germans, Dutch and Belgians, who can only dream of a place like Sos Ettanos, took the opportunity, joined forces and now aim to build Et between the rivers Meuse and Rhine. «It’s madness, they want to condemn us to perpetual marginalization – says Antonio Calia, mayor of Lula, for 35 years a miner in the veins of Sos Enattos -. We will do everything to foil the arrogance of this deal for the few, with the alibi of renewable energy».

The projects

There are one hundred industrial wind and photovoltaic projects presented in Sardinia. Fifteen hundred new wind turbines, which, added to the photovoltaic panels, mean a total installed power (which is not “produced” energy) for the needs of 25 million inhabitants, whereas Sardinia has one million and 650 thousand. “Public contributions of 140 thousand euros for each megawatt installed, for 20, 30, or 40 years – says Mauro Pili, former president of the Region and former deputy, who has returned to being a journalist for theSardinian Union —, make this business more profitable than drug trafficking”. With huge costs for tourism, fishing and shipping, landscape and nature.

The Constitution

A “game” that is not worth the candle and devastates the landscape, which is an irreproducible asset protected by the Constitution. And in fact in 2014, when he was still a judge of the Constitutional Court, Sergio Mattarella signed a sentence in which it is written to «avoid that a massive installation of wind farms could frustrate the other values involved, all relating to the protection, especially of the landscape, of the territory» . While today Mattarella, who spends his holidays at Capo Caccia in Alghero – explains Mario Bruno, former mayor of the city -, “will find himself before his eyes, right on the Coral Riviera, a forest of 54 shovels, each 332 meters height, thirty more than the Eiffel Tower. A 1,350 megawatt “farm”, the largest in the world».

The Council of State

The Sardinia Region has challenged the energy decree of the Draghi government not only for the devastating landscape and naturalistic effect, but also because it is a region with a special statute and has primary competence in matters of landscape and energy. The Council of State will decide on this next February. In the meantime, however, the wind gold fever is producing megalomaniac projects all over the Sardinian coast. In front of Sant’Antioco and Carloforte, for example, 35 towers 300 meters high will make bluefin tuna lose their way, the real wealth of the local economy. Franciscu Sedda, professor of Semiology, leader of the independence movement “A innantis!”, says: “The case of ET is shocking. The Italian state deliberately puts at risk a project worth 7 billion euros and 2 percent of the national GDP. Because?”. The answer is in the huge profits to which the proposing companies aim. Mostly multinationals based in Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Norway, that is precisely those countries that have been hostile to Italy on the money of the Pnrr. Represented locally by small companies with 4 or 5 thousand euros of share capital, these companies appear only at the end of the proceedings. Eni and JP Morgan, the large American investment bank, also did the same and wants to plant its blades in the Gulf of Angels. But there are also companies directly attributable to the mafia, as documented by investigations initiated in Palermo and hinged on Cagliari.

In front of the coasts

The head of government, Giorgia Meloni, who has appointed ex-minister Cingolani as her personal consultant on the “transition”, will not be able to turn a blind eye. Because nothing has been spared on the Isola dei Nuraghi. Hundreds of imposing towers from La Maddalena and Caprera, up to the whole Costa Smeralda (210 towers) and Golfo Aranci. Gigantic towers in front of the coasts of Oristano and Cagliari. And wind turbines also at Capo Teulada, which is already forbidden for bathing and mooring due to missiles and bombs from military exercises. And again, absurd towers even in the fertile countryside of Campidano durum wheat. Not even the wonderful basilica of Saccargia was saved, wind turbines there too, by the Erg, with another ad hoc decree from the Draghi government, rejected however by the Sardinian Tar on November 29 last year. Yet Sardinia is the only European region without gas. This did not allow the two coal-fired plants of Portovesme and Porto Torres to be converted to gas, as instead happened for the other plants of the same type in the rest of Italy. While methane, the least polluting of the fossil fuels, which was to arrive here with the Galsi gas pipeline from Algeria, is still transported in cylinders. The Galsi project (which, like the TAP pipeline from Azerbaijan, could have proved fundamental) is one of the “strategic European projects”, but was scuttled in favor of the transport of liquid gas by gas tankers from Mozambique and America, with a relative rush to build huge and useless regasification plants. Instead, precisely that methane could have, and still could, ensure the real transition to the clean energy of hydrogen. For this reason, Carlo Rubbia, Nobel Prize winner for Physics, had been entrusted with another project, «Hydrogen Island». But without methane, both the Island and hydrogen have been decapitated by the guillotine of wind turbines.
