The Generalitat Valenciana approves the majority of projects to produce clean energy

Complying with the expiration date, the president of the Generalitat Valenciana has presented this afternoon the balance of projects approved to produce renewable energy: more than half have obtained the go-ahead. In total, 107 projects have been evaluated, of which 61 files have been approved for a capacity of 1,356 MW. Another 31 have not passed the supervision of the technicians and another 15 projects have been left out in this case after the applicant companies have withdrawn. Those who have not made the cut have done so for “environmental reasons and landscape issues”, as well as for the “solvency of the project” itself, the head of the Consell has detailed.

The work sprint of the last few weeks -Puig has thanked the work of the public employees involved these days- has been important, since the applications should have at most today their corresponding Environmental Impact Statement; three months later, the prior administrative authorization will arrive; and another three months later, the construction permit. Most of the projects are to generate photovoltaic energy, but there are also wind energy projects.

The president Ximo Puig has appeared this afternoon after the meeting with the three ministers involved in the examination of the files – the Sustainable Economy, Rafa Climent; that of Agriculture, Isaura Navarro; and that of Territorial Policy, Rebeca Torró- and stressed that “despite the difficulties, the Generalitat Valenciana has complied in due time and form with the objectives that it had set for itself”. What the president has described as a “milestone” will allow, in his words, “to achieve energy sovereignty, which means better competitiveness and maintenance and strengthening of the Welfare State.”

The 61 projects with a favorable report, 57% of the total, will mean increasing by 57% the power of the renewable energy that is generated in the Valencian Community, “and that will facilitate that more than half of the energy that is going to be generated already comes from renewable sources”, he has qualified. The renewable power currently installed in the Valencian Community is 2,372.88 MW.

The approved files will mean increasing by 57% the power of renewable energy generated in the Valencian Community

To this calculation it will be necessary to add the balance of files that the central government must still approve, Puig recalled. In this case, the power to be installed in the Valencian Community that depends on authorization from the Ministry is 1,123 MW. In total, adding the power of the regional and state files, it will mean a power of 5,323 MW, half of the objective that the Valencian Community has set in the 2030 objective.

In economic terms, the president has ensured that the files approved today will mobilize an investment of 859 million euros and will generate 1,500 jobs in one year in the construction and maintenance of the planned plants.
