Opponents of nuclear power demonstrated on Saturday for a complete phase-out of nuclear power. About 115 people came to the demonstration at the Emsland nuclear power plant in Lingen (Emsland district), the police said. Citizens’ groups had called for the protest.
The demonstrators called for the nuclear power plant, the fuel element factory in Lingen and the uranium enrichment plant in neighboring Gronau to be shut down. In addition, they spoke out in favor of an end to the business between the fuel element factory and the Russian nuclear authority Rosatom.
The Emsland nuclear power plant was actually supposed to be shut down at the turn of the year. Due to the energy crisis, the term was extended to April 15th.
“In Lingen we are experiencing the opposite of the nuclear phase-out: instead of shutting down the nuclear power plant immediately, as promised, fuel elements are now being regrouped again at great expense. Unfortunately, the fuel element factory next door is even to be expanded,” said Alexander Vent from the “nuclear power opponents: inside in Emsland” alliance.
